Māna ‘Ai Carving Workshop with Nalu Andrade

  • Hoa 'Āina O Mākaha 84-225 Ala Naauao Place Waianae, HI, 96792 United States (map)

We're excited to host a two-day Māna 'Ai (baby's first food dish) carving workshop on April 20 and April 21 in partnership with Hawaiian carving practitioner Nalu Andrade and Kaulunani Urban & Community Forestry Program. Nalu Andrade will share about the values and functions of trees and forests, plus how to access wood and transform it into meaningful and usable art. ‘Ohana will get to carve a māna ʻai (baby’s first food dish) from recovered wood and support restoration of our forests while practicing forest stewardship. There is no cost to participants, Kaulunani covers all of the fees and Nalu will provide the supplies and tools for carving. This workshop is two days and we're asking for a commitment to both days of the workshop to promote reciprocity and pilina building between us and this 'āina. We can accommodate 10 ‘ohana (up to 5 people per ‘ohana) and is first come, first serve. This workshop is currently full, but we will have a waitlist in case any spaces open up. Please contact us for more details.
